Diatomaceous Earth
Diatomaceous Earth is a naturally occurring sedimentary mineral compound from microscopic skeletal remains of algae-like plants called diatoms. These plants have been part of the earth’s ecology and 30 million years ago diatoms built deep, chalky deposits of diatomite. The diatoms are mined and ground up to render a powder that feels like talcum powder. It is a natural mineral based pesticide and continual breathing of any dust should be avoided. To insects DE is a lethal dust with microscopic razor sharp edges. These sharp edges cut through the insect’s protective outer layer, drying it out and killing them when they are dusted with it.
Diatomaceous Earth Experimental Feeding to Zoo Animals:
A mixture of feed incorporating 2% diatomaceous earth was sent to three zoos for evaluation. Stool samples taken at all three zoos showed an absence of any internal parasites, adult or egg. (1)

Anyone? I think there a rather well-known candida treatment clinic here in New York (Biamonte Center) that uses diatomaceous earth as part of their protocol, so it seems like it should be safe. I’m a bit scared of it though. I don’t agree with other aspects of the Biamonte protocol, however, such as killing the candida before removing metals and not taking any supplements to boost the immune system (because they will feed the candida), until the candida is gone. I have actually done the opposite and it is working well for me…although my candida is not gone yet…just precariously under control!

I have the same reaction, because it is an abrasive substance, I picture it as ground glass… not sure that with some of us, and our inflamed intestine linings, that it would be tolerated. But I’ve never tried it. I think the Nourishing Traditions people, Fallon, have recommended it for Candida.

Also, some humans eat DE on a regular basis to control their own internal parasites (yes, we have them too – YUCK!) The FDA has even approved DE for human and animal consumption, although they have yet to approve it as an internal parasite control. As a matter of fact, DE has been used as an anti-caking agent to keep stored grain from getting clumpy for many years, so if you’ve eaten flour, you’ve probably eaten DE!
